Coil Flower Vase
Planning: During my time back In England, I saw hundreds of flowers. I was inspired by the huge sunflower field that is in my grandparents neighborhood, as well as the flowers that were on my grandmas casket because of the color purple they were. I knew I wanted to make something with flowers on it, but I later decided I could also make something used for flowers. This is how I decided to make a flower vase, with flowers painted on it.
Clay Type: Low Fire White
To begin my coil pot I found a base from the bin of lids outside. I used the lid as a stencil and made a slab of clay. I cut out the base out of the slab and then began making my coils. I began making coils with the outside extruder and used a medium sized coil ring about an inch thick. I made my first set of coils and then began towering the coils up. I would roll out a coil and then connect it to itself to make one big ring. I then scored and slipped both the ring and the pot where i would be adding the ring. I continued to blend the coils into the existing pot and then repeated the same process. To bring the pot out or in I would place the coils further out or in on the already existing pot. Once i reached the top, I began using the bat and paddle to try and mold the vase to the best shape I could. Once I was satisfied with the overall shape and smoothness it was fired. While it was being fired i researched some ideas and decided I was going to try and place some big flowers and grass on the bottom and then paint the top a sky blue. As of right now I am painting my case with underglaze.
Realistic Bust
Planning: My planning/inspiration came from watching Ali make her bust. She made a beautiful bust of a cartoon character while I was making my flower vase. I decided after making my vase I wanted to start parking on a bust.
Process: Have not Finished. I got pretty frustrated with working on the bust so I started making a few mugs in unit 3 and I am going to come back to this after the break and try and get some more motivation.
