Evermore Mug (Continued from last projects)
Planning: After making my midnight's mug, I decided I wanted to make another mug that was Taylor Swift inspired. I looked through the album covers and decided I wanted to try and recreate the Evermore album cover.
Process: I began this mug by making another slab. I knew I didn't have a lot of time for this project because it is so close to break, so I decided to make it with a slab because it is the fastest method for me. I made this mug by wrapping it around to the desired shape and size. I decided to try and make the braid in her hair the handle. I did this by cutting small strips and braiding it slowly to try and keep it from cracking. I used a paint brush to try and keep it as wet as possible. After attaching the handle by slipping and scoring I set the mug to dry with the handle in the shape I wanted. After letting it dry, I cut out small square slabs as evenly shaped as possible and then slipped and scored each tile on. After this is made sure each piece was connected as well as possible. This piece is now being fired.

Midnight Mug
Planning: In the project period before this I made a cup with stars but it was more of a small tea cup and I didn't like how it ended up. I decided to look at some more cups with a similar theme and found this cup and wanted to try and recreate something similar.
Process: The process for this mug was almost identical to the mug before this. i made a slab to make the base shape of the mug. Afterwards I added the handle and then began making cutouts for the moons, stars, and clouds. I slipped and scored all of these on at the same time as the handle and then set it out to be fired.

Flower Tea Cups
Planning: Planning for these teacups was Ali asking me to make teacups to match with her tea Kettle. I agreed and started looking at some ideas online. We had also seen a similar teacup set out to be fired which gave us a base idea of what we wanted it to look like. This is an image of an idea we also found online.
Process: This project took me a couple tries to actually get it to how I wanted it to look. I started this by making a base circle for the bottom of the cup and then used a container to keep the petals upright when I added them. I cut out petals individually and then scored them on. The first cup I made I made the petals to pointed and I ended up scrapping it to try again (Picture on Right). The second try, I used a more rounded base and then cut the petals with a more rounded edge. This is definitely where I went wrong on the first cup. After adding all the petals I went over the cracks between petals to make sure the cup would actually hold liquid. After this I decided to add little leafs to the bottom as a foot. Finally I slipped and scored a small handle onto the edge petal.

Heart Shape Cake Box
Planning: After researching some progress on Pinterest, I decided
I wanted to make something food related. I found this picture of
a box in the shape of a heart cake and I decided I wanted to
make something similar.
Process: To make this piece I began with a base slab. I made the
base slab and then cut out two pieces of paper in the shape of a
heart to get the size of the box. I cut the slab with the papers as
a guide to create the bottom and top of the box. After making
the bottom, I then used a second slab to shape the sides. I
slipped and scored the sides of the bottom, and the inside of
the second slab. I did this part in two sections to try and make
each side as even as possible. I wrapped each side around the
base and then had to gently push the middle part of the hear to make it even. After this I added a foot to the lid to make it fit on the box. Once I has the base parts of the box built I got to add decorations. I first hollowed out and added cherries to the top on the lid. I then used a piping bag and cake decorating tools to add the "frosting" on the lid and on the sides of the box. This part was the most challenging but fun part of building the box. I had to make sure the clay was just a little bit harder then slip so it would go through the bag but was also firm enough to hold its shape. After adding the final details, I let the box dry in the proper shape and then sent it to be fired in the kiln.
Glazes: Glazing is still in progress!
